OpenID - Do you support it?

image I am happy to say that my blog supports OpenID. So, in case you are wondering what do I mean by that, let me explain. Here is the definition from Wikipedia:

OpenID is a shared identity service, which allows Internet users to log on to many different web sites using a single digital identity, eliminating the need for a different user name and password for each site. OpenID is a decentralized, free and open standard that lets users control the amount of personal information they provide.

To say it simply, if you want to comment to this post, you need to sign in. To sign in however, you don't need to a create a separate login. You can use an OpenID. There is a chance that you may not know but you might already have an OpenID if you have any of the accounts below: image

I am using www.myOpenID.com but you could use any of the above. So, go head and try posting a comment, let me know if it works.

Allowing users to login into your blog using OpenID is very easy. If you are using Drupal, it is even easier. All you need to do it go to modules and enable the OpenID module:

  1. Go to Administrator / Site / Modules
  2. Check the OpenID Module, and save.

OpenID, has been around for a long time now and various sites allow you to use OpenIDs. Scott Hanselman has a great post on OpenID too. I would encourage you to read that and yeah, don't forget to leave your comments using OpenID. Show off your OpenID :)
